BOSCO IN DADANISM

FLAVOR WITH THE SPIRIT OF ITALY

How about looking at Bosco through the eyes of Dadanism?

Years ago, when I went to Rome to live, I soon realized that tiramisu was not the custardy, layered, hard cat’s tongue, cream cheese and Nescafe I knew it to be. When I returned to Istanbul, I did not, could not taste the taste of the tiramisu with mascarpone cheese I tasted in Italian restaurants in Rome. Until I went to Ankara…

You read it right, I found the tiramisu in Ankara that took me to Italy: Bosco Caffe e Tiramisu. Welcome to my life, even if you are far away!

It turns out that our paths crossed with Uğur, the owner of Bosco, in Rome, albeit in spirit. When he was studying in Rome between 2011 and 2015, he lived right across the street from Pompi in Re-di Roma, the most famous tiramisu place there. Trying Pompi and their traditional Italian tiramisu was a revelation for me. Foamy, soft cream, cat tongues without layers… Especially if it is homemade by Italian hands, it is another texture, another tradition, another flavor.

If I sat in front of Pompi every day, I would be obese, but this incident ignited Uğur’s love for sweets and his curiosity about tiramisu. At Christmas 2015, Uğur was blown away by a tiramisu made by the grandmother of an Italian friend of his, so he bought the recipe and tried it with his future tiramisu mom. He then spent almost six more months trying to get the same consistency and finally found the right recipe with a mascarpone sourced from Italy. In addition to the classic tiramisu with hazelnut caramel, forest fruit (which is legendary), lemon, Oreo and low sugar, panna cotta, torta caprese, a flourless dark chocolate torta with almonds from the island of Capri, and Pomona, a chocolate-filled pear, have also been in Bosco’s kitchen since 2017. In addition to its delicious desserts, this café in Emek is also quite heartwarming with its decoration. This place, which is almost like a botanical café, has turned into a living space with regular jazz concerts, short film screenings and theater.

If you’re ever in Ankara, or if you’re in Ankara and haven’t tried it yet, there are plenty of reasons to visit Bosco.
